In this corner of Alto Alentejo, there’s plenty more to do than just resting in the shade with the company of a good book. From walks along the banks of the dam, to cycling or even horseback riding, you’ll have plenty of activities to keep you occupied and active. With the immense lake at our doorstep, nautical activities are a must.
From canoeing to sports fishing, including paddle boarding or water skiing, there are many to choose from.
The surroundings
The wealth of Montargil Monte Novo also results from its location since, beyond the wonderful dam reservoir, there is a vast cultural and historical heritage to be discovered. You should really make time to get to know the nearest town, Ponte de Sor and its riverside area, which rests on the bank of the Sor River.
If you want to travel a little further, venturing into the Alentejo plain, you can visit the Fluviário de Mora, a public aquarium dedicated to freshwater ecosystems. You can also check out the Alter do Chão Stud Farm, which is devoted to horses and equestrian art, with plenty of stories to tell. Vila Viçosa, the museum-village, transports you to summers of the past, when kings and queens came to this location. The cherry on top must be a visit to the beautiful heritage you can find in all corners of charming Évora.
