Property guide

We welcome you to the Montargil Monte Novo estate. In the Alto Alentejo, just an hour and a half from Lisbon. Come and meet us.

Mandatory stop on the EN2

Route Official agent of the EN2 Route, the Montargil Monte Novo is known for its distinctive characteristics in terms of service and hospitality, as well as its perfect setting in nature. The landscape, the tranquillity, the silence, the rural setting, the services and the guests' privacy are all decisive factors for those who stay with us, whether for a weekend, a family holiday or a longer work or leisure stay.

Security and privacy

The Monte Novo Estate is a private property with restricted access, so that our guests can move freely and safely in the estate and in total privacy. We want to provide you with the best possible experience in terms of comfort, convenience and well-being.

Nature at its best

The olive trees, orange trees, lemon trees, fig trees, palm trees, lawns and vegetable gardens give the Monte Novo a bucolic atmosphere and characteristics all of its own. The fact that we are bordered by the Montargil dam helps to define the contours of the property and makes the water a natural extension of the estate.

What to do in the Montargil Monte Novo

Some of our guests' most popular suggestions:

1. Go on a boat or canoe ride

The Montargil Monte Novo stands out for several reasons, but this is undoubtedly one of the main ones. The estate has its own anchorage, where up to six boats can dock, and from where you can start a boat trip around the dam and peacefully enjoy the landscape.

Our guests can bring their own boat or request our services regarding nautical activities, so that during their holidays they can enjoy the dam directly from the property.

2. Diving into a natural pool

Before or after the nautical activities, next to the anchorage, there is nothing better than taking a moment to swim or take a dip in the calm waters of the dam. The natural pool has direct access from the anchorage and is prepared so that our guests can swim in safety.

3. Observing the species

The Montargil Monte Novo is the ideal place for those who want to connect with nature and observe some of the species that inhabit the estate and the banks of the dam. Without leaving the estate, you can spot aquatic and terrestrial birds such as storks, eagles, swallows, herons or ducks.

You can also get to know various species of trees and plants as you walk along the estate's paths, such as olive trees, cork oaks, pine trees, holm oaks, orange trees, lemon trees and Indian fig trees. You will get to know not only the native species and the fruit trees, but also the vegetables grown in the estate's vegetable garden, which are then used to make dishes and serve homemade products such as jams, sweets, cakes and liqueurs.

4. Drinking a cocktail in the late afternoon

After a day of rest or activities, it is impossible to resist a cold drink and at the estate there are more than 15 options on the cocktail menu that you can enjoy. With more or less citrus flavours, with or without alcohol, it will be difficult to choose just one.

5. Savouring a variety of teas

If you prefer tea, whether hot or iced, you are still in the right place. At the Montargil Monte Novo, whether in the bar of the main building or on the large terrace, you can taste a wide variety of teas and learn about the benefits of each one.

6. Practicing the dolce far niente

This is the motto for many guests who come to Monte Novo for a two or three-day getaway or a longer family holiday. So, you can simply take advantage of the estate to relax, go for a walk or read a book in the garden, between swims in the pool and the breathtaking view over the dam. If you stay in the main building, you can enjoy the infinity pool, a perfect setting that invites you to take many photos due to the mythical setting of the palm trees and the idyllic landscape in the background.

7. Enjoying the best of Alentejo's gastronomy

With a panoramic view over the dam, the estate's restaurant is open daily to the public, not only for guests, but also for customers upon availability.

At the Montargil Monte Novo restaurant you can enjoy the best of the Alentejo cuisine, recreated by chef Miguel Varela. With local flavours, maintaining the tradition and aromas of the land, the chef favours the use of organic products grown on the estate when preparing his dishes.

Whether it is lunch, dinner or enjoying the terrace, our guests and clients can choose from different special menus depending on the time of the year.

8. Enjoying the best local wines

As the Alentejo is one of the largest wine-growing regions in the country, our restaurant also offers a special selection of wines. And if you want to get a closer look at the region's wine culture and wines, you can also guarantee your presence at the wine tasting experience and visit the Monte da Raposinha.

9. Organizing a special event

In addition to the landscape, the green spaces, the gastronomy and the activities and experiences available, the Montargil Monte Novo is also the ideal place to hold private events. Besides being able to close the property for event, subject to availability and conditions, the estate has a deck area next to the dam where you can hold events and weddings in a unique and totally personalised way.

Leave the city for a few days. Lose yourself in Alentejo and find yourself again at the Montargil Monte Novo, with all the activities, experiences and unforgettable moments that we will continue to prepare especially for you.
